The Good Cook Shop Closing Down Sale!

If anybody from the Portsmouth area loves their kitchen bits-and-bobs then you might want to stop by The Good Cook Shop in Marmion Road in Southsea.

The Good Cook Shop – a Southsea staple – is unfortunately closing its doors in just two days on Saturday the 9th of July. I’m very sad to see this lovely little shop go, but the bargain hunter in me just had to make the most of the opportunity!

The store is selling off stock all at a discount – ex hire/ex display and seconds are being sold at crazy prices.

Buy One Get One Half Price At Holland & Barrett

I’m not normally one to go into Holland and Barrett as I’ve always seen it as a shop full of protein powders. A very long time ago I actually worked for their sister stores – GNC – and I was never keen on the products we sold. That said, I was walking past and fancied something healthy to snack on and I spotted a sign with their ‘buy one get one half price’ offer. I had a browse and was actually really impressed with what they sold!

I didn’t end up buying quite such healthy things but I did get some yummy treats at a discount!

20p Shower Gels At Asda!

If you’re passing by Asda any time soon, I’d recommend popping in and hurrying to the bathing aisle. The supermarket is currently selling selected own-brand shower gels for just 20p instead of their usual price of 75p. I’m not 100% sure why this is, but someone that worked there suggested they might have been discontinued.

The first time I went to my local Asda they actually didn’t have any, but low and behold, this week they did! It was super busy in the store when I went and I did get a few strange looks when I cleared the shelf of what was there – but who cares when you’re getting a bargain. The guy working on the checkout was really impressed with my haul!

How Would You React Losing Out On A Bargain!?

Yesterday I was in Tesco and did my usual rounds of the reduced sections. It seemed as if the tinned food/household bargains had just been topped up and there was loads to rifle through. I was about halfway through when another shopper came running up to the shelves and loudly started shouting ‘NO, NO, NO!’. I turned round to see her frantically searching for a reduced item that I can only assume that she didn’t put in her basket earlier and regretted it. It was weird to see someone get so crazy over a bargain, especially something from a supermarket – it can’t have been something that expensive in the first place. I saw her looking in my trolley and I stated to think I’d picked up whatever it was she wanted – I hadn’t – phew! Not that I would have given it to her anyway… Finders keepers! Anyway, the woman then proceeded to crazily push items off the shelf in a bid to find whatever she was looking for. I’ve never seen anything quiet like it!

Trapped In A Lift While Bargain Hunting!

Two Sundays ago I’d planned to do a little yellow-sticker shopping to top up my freezer. It was a gloriously sunny day and in the town where I live there were a number of events on, so I thought that my local Tesco would be pretty dead. In my mind this would hopefully equal lots of highly reduced food.

I set off at 2pm, the shop is only a 5 minute drive up the road and I was feeling pretty confident. This Tesco is a new fancy one which has a travelator and a lift that takes you up to the main floor. I almost took the travelator but at the last second I changed my mind.

I was in the lift with a few other customers – I pressed the button and off we went. Or so I thought. After the doors shut nothing happened! Eventually we started to move upwards… And then suddenly we dropped down. I felt like I was on a real-life Tower of Terror ride. Thankfully, there wasn’t much of a drop but it became apparent that we were very much stuck in the lift. Although it was a bit scary, I pressed the alarm button and we thought we’d soon be rescued. I pressed it again. And again. And again. No one responded and I started to panic a little! It was really hot and I was feeling faint – I did not want to pass out but I sure felt like I was going to. We got our our mobiles to try and call the store but none of us had signal. The guy in the lift with us tried to force the door open, but to avail. I know it’s dramatic, but I thought we’d never be found and die in there! One of the ladies in the lift started to press all of the buttons again – I’m not sure if it was that or the lift just started to behave itself, but we finally moved upwards again and got out. Nobody on the outside seemed to have a clue that we were stuck in there!

‘Secret’ 15% Discount at Schuh

Recently I discovered a great little discount at Schuh that I think might interest you (ohh that rhymes!)

I’m not one to normally spend a lot on shoes, but I’ve had my eye on two pairs of converse that I just couldn’t leave behind. I really wanted to treat myself, so I searched the internet for any voucher code I could get my hands on. Unfortunately though, there was nothing, so I decided to just buy one pair.

Collection Eyes Uncovered Review

Although I’d say I’m a novice when it comes to applying make-up, I love searching for new products to try out.

I recently popped into Superdrug and spotted in the reduced section a Eyes Uncovered eyeshadow palette by Collection in the colour Nude Bronze. It was only £1 because it was missing the brush and and one of the shadows was a bit damaged. I couldn’t resist picking it up at that price, especially as I didn’t know if I’d like it yet.

Amefa Cutlery 85% Off!

If you’ve been following my blog then you’ll know that I’m super organised when it comes to buying presents and I do so in advance via the sales and clearance sections. I’ll make a list of things that I hope to pick up so that I don’t stray too far from my budget. One of the things I really wanted to get both my Mum and Dad was a nice cutlery set for each of their homes. When I was shopping in the Christmas sales for this years gifts, I didn’t come across any so I bought other things instead. Strangely though, I was drawn to an Amefa cutlery set which was £50. Although it was full price when I first saw it, I had a hunch that I should keep an eye on it. Sometimes when I pop into Tesco I’d go down that aisle… Just to check if the price changed. Since January they’ve been reduced on and off by 50% on a special promotion, but seeing as I’m already set for gifts for my parents this year, I wasn’t drawn in by the discount.

Surprise Yellow-Sticker Finds

It feels like such a long time since I’ve done a good yellow-sticker haul! I swear that the best finds happen when you least expect them to. I popped into Tesco today purely to pick up some BBQ sauce and brioche buns to make pulled pork burgers- I promised myself I’d only be 5 minutes especially because I had just realised that I’d left candles lit at home and I was imaging returning to a burnt-down flat…

I restrained myself from looking at the two main reduced-to-clear areas which have fresh food, but I just so happened to pass by the ‘other-stuff’ clearance shelf. There were so many things that they had to put one of those tall trolleys piled high right next to it. I noticed some BBQ sauce reduced -that sucked me in to looking at everything else! There was another lady who, like me had a basket that became over-flowing. She was really kind and got us a trolley each. The discounts were really good in this section, I think because of the huge amount of stock they wanted to clear quickly.

By the time I had finished making my choices, there were quite a few people around. I saw one lady pick up a case (a box full of boxes) of Cadbury fingers which were reduced to 30p each… I don’t blame her, it’s a great deal!

Debenhams Beauty Card Glitch!?

Did you know you can spend your Debenhams Beauty card points on more than just makeup!?

debs glitch.jpg

I’ve been a cardholder for many years and I’ve always been led to believe that you could only redeem your points on beauty products. It does make sense, given that it’s a beauty card!

Well, that’s correct if you’re using it in-store but I’ve recently discovered that you can use your points against anything online. It might be glitch but I was able to use 500 points against a dress, meaning I got £5 off. I was really glad about it as I’m not looking to buy more makeup anytime soon – I’ve got enough!
